摘选油管对目明的评价:
I want more villain protagonists in stories! Shion's arc shows how much depth a story can gain if we look at it from different perspectives, and especially if we look at a suspense/mystery story from the villain's point of view.
If you only view the plot of chapter 2 and 5 from Keiichi's perspective then nothing the perpetrator does seems to make any sense. 'Mion' killed Rika and Kimiyoshi because they changed a lock on a storehouse that belongs to the Furude family and doesn't even concern the head of the Sonozaki family? And then she wants to torture Keiichi to death because he didn't give her some doll? I mean jealousy was certainly one reason why this actually happened, but Shion's real motive goes a lot deeper than "he didn't give me a doll!".
If you only look at 'Mion's behavior from Keiichi's perspective then she really seems to be a demon because of how ridiculous that motive looks. Of course that is deliberate to make you think that Mion actually had been possessed when you are reading the Watanagashi chapter. But if you rule out demonic possession then Shion will just look like a generic mustache-twirling bad guy who just kills people for the sake of killing, which - if that were true - would rob that particular story arc of any real depth. Because the villain is the one who drives the story, and not just this story, but any kind of murder mystery or horror story. So arguably the villain is the most important character in these kind of stories, and yet, most writers don't even give their villains enough screen time to give us a reason to care about them and their motives.

And that is why Meakashi is so great. Since the villain of Watanagashi is the protagonist, not only do we get a fresh new perspective from someone who is completely different than our normal protagonist, we also get the opportunity to understand the culprit and her real motives, learn a different side of her (before Meakashi, we didn't even know how important Satoshi was to Shion even though her love for him is her most defining trait!) and maybe, just maybe, even sympathize with her even though she commits such awful crimes. And that is awesome! Not only does it give the story arc more meaning, it also shows us that even a villain who acts completely demonic and evil is actually just a human being who did some bad mistakes that brought her into a situation that got incresingly worse. I wonder how many generic bad guys would be praised as well written villains if the writers who created them gave us their point of views more often?
Whether you love or hate Shion, I think her perspective provided us with a very satisfying answer for chapter 2's mystery without having the answer be that she was just possessed by a demon all along.
